LES (Singapore) held a joint seminar with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) on Friday 17 January 2020 on the topic of “Protection of Intellectual Assets and Resolving Disputes – the WIPO Advantage”.
Peter Willimott, Senior Program Officer from the WIPO Singapore Office explained how businesses can protect inventions, brands and designs in different countries around the world. He shared some of the specific WIPO tools that have been designed for IP protection and management. Chiara Accornero, Associate Legal Officer from the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center in Singapore shared how parties who have entered into commercial licensing and technology contracts may choose WIPO alternative dispute resolution (ADR) options to resolve disputes. She explained how the WIPO ADR procedures may be tailored to the specific needs of the transaction, industry or technology concerned.
The attendees were provided insights on WIPO’s services and case examples and past transactions were shared. Many interesting questions were also raised by the attendees and the evening concluded with some light refreshments and networking opportunities.
